That alone takes courage and humility – and is a huge first step in healing. Finding a therapist in a town like Boulder can be daunting but once you find a match that’s right for you, the doors open and you’ll start to feel better and be glad you took this leap.
Your place to feel free of anxiety and worry
If you believe change is possible and feel ready to try something different, I am excited to meet you! I have been through my own crises and suffered from my own inner critic enough to know that asking for help is hard but also a huge saving grace. Through my trials, I realized one of my gifts is creating a space where people feel totally accepted and empowered. My goal is for you to re-connect with your deepest wisdom. By doing this, the volume on the critical voice inside your head goes down and the voice that is empathetic and compassionate becomes your new norm. The more we treat ourselves with compassion, the better we feel, and the better our life becomes. Change. Is. Possible.
Bringing awareness to heal and help change your patterns
For many of us, life can feel ultimately… overwhelming! It can be difficult to relax. Often our quality of sleep suffers. Some of us crave substances like sweets, carbs, or alcohol to help us feel better. Bringing awareness to our thoughts and beliefs helps us create change that leads to less anxiety, fewer negative moments, and greater fulfillment. By creating a safe, emotionally-supportive space, my clients are able to re-connect with their inner wisdom and change the patterns that have been holding them back.
I believe we are all healthy, whole individuals and because of different life circumstances we have developed patterns that cause us to feel shame, guilt, and anxiety. I offer psychotherapy to individuals struggling with addiction, anxiety, grief, and gender issues — whether these issues are yours or a loved one’s. Having been steeped in a variety of settings, such as counseling at-risk youth, homeless seniors, and people arrested for DUI’s and other substance abuse-related instances gives me a vast reservoir of the human experience from which I draw. My clients seek me out because they are experiencing existential crisis and/or high levels of stress, and are wanting to make positive growth.
Reconnect with your true self
Sessions vary based on each individual. I believe in a holistic approach, meaning we examine thought patterns, bodily sensations/tension/breath, as well as spiritual beliefs or world views that inform your inner wisdom. We all have a creative life force that is typically squelched by the time we become adults, and reconnecting with this creates more energy and vitality.
Additionally I also look at food and nutrition. Our diet can often create “false moods” that can be easily eliminated by eating well and using amino acid supplements to boost neurotransmitters that may be depleted. Often this provides immediate relief to anxiety and deep cravings. The majority of the people reach out to me for addiction treatment, anxiety treatment, grief counseling, spiritual counseling, and/or therapy for gender issues.
What people are saying: Reflecting upon all that has happened to me this summer, I know that I would not be as solidly grounded as I am today without Annemarie’s help and support. Our conversations continue to play in my head, giving me confidence when I need it, and forgiveness when I am being too hard on myself. - T. Burke (male)
Annemarie has always made me feel comfortable sharing and being vulnerable. And she helped me recognize aspects of my life and my thoughts that I could change for the better. Since seeing Annemarie, I have felt happier and more in control. – W.C. (female)
I had been to three therapists before starting with Annemarie. With Annemarie I felt the presence of a non-judgmental, knowing reflection. I felt supported exactly as I am. That in itself allowed me to release burdens that I had been holding onto and building upon that trust was her therapeutic skill set, specifically in gestalt and somatic therapy. I had never had experience "getting in my body" and uncovering the messages that were resting within. Annemarie's acceptance of me as a human being combined with her traditional and somatic therapy techniques allowed me to grow far more that I ever knew possible. I learned the true meaning of self-love. -B.P. (male)
